Upon A Burning Body

I've been keeping an eye on these guys since the singer was touring with As Blood Runs Black last year (I think). They recently signed to Sumerian and released some new material. Even though it's not really ground-breaking and unique, it's amazing. They might be making generic metalcore/deathcore music, but damn, they do it right. One of the things that really stands out about them is the vocalist Danny's voice. It's very understandable yet it maintains that brutality.

Ash Avildsen, founder of Sumerian Records, puts it perfectly, "Upon a Burning Body frontman Danny Leal has one of the most distinguishable and decipherable voices I have heard in years. With the perfect soundtrack of riffs and beats backing him and an explosive live show, there is no question what the very near future will hold for this band.

So definitely check these guys out! They're for sure on my top favorite bands now. Not to mention, they do a jaw-dropping cover of Pantera's "5 Minutes Alone".

MONSTERS.

Monsters - Righteous Dead (2009)
Hardcore/Death Metal

Been a while since my last blog entry. Alas, I have been busy. But I couldn't NOT write about my latest music acquisition. Picked up Monsters' latest EP earlier this morning and it's been on constant repeat, for good reason.

IMO, there's a few things that need to be done right to get a good deathcore sound. One of them is the right guitar tone. These guys got the perfect tone to compliment both the hardcore and metal riffs they bring (om nom good breakdown tones).

The other thing that I absolutely must have is good vocals. I haven't heard lows like Monsters that I've liked since TAS's "The Dead Walk".

Anyways, I would definitely recommend checking these guys out. They are worth a listen.

I thought in my mind that I wasn't into the screamo and not-as-heavy kinds of rock/metal anymore, but after listening to Attack Attack!'s latest CD, I think I might be wrong. The combination of metalcore, screamo, and electronic has got me hooked. From the electronic intro that fades into a breakdown on the second track, I was instantly in love. Good beats, vocal performances, breakdowns, dischords and all; if you're into metal, screamo, electronica, or any combination of those, definitely give this CD a listen!

GTS 250 1024MB PCIe

Just picked up a new graphics card at Fry's yesterday. Damn them and they're temptress-like awesome sales... Anyways , I picked up the NVIDIA GTS 250 1024MB PCIe by PNY's XLR8 Gaming. Here's the specs for it:

Bus Technology: PCI Express 2.0
Memory Amount: 1024MB DDR3

Memory Interface: 256-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/s.): 70.4
Fill Rate (billion pixels/sec.): 47.2
Shader Clock (MHz): 1836 MHz
Core Clock (MHz): 738 MHz
Memory Frequency (effective): 2200 MHz
Stream Processors: 128

It comes with all the usual NVIDIA features and overclocking utilities, etc, so I will be pushing the limit with it. But, since I'm at my parents' house on my laptop, I won't be installing this until tomorrow when I head back home. But once I do, I'll post an update on how much it rocks (or fails). Can't wait to try this baby out.

UPDATE: Installed the card and it definitely lives up to my hype. Definitely a worthy purchase. Runs all my games on the highest settings with no problems at all. I would recommend this card to anybody looking some bang for your buck.

Well, finished messing around with this and that'll probably be it for now, from the design point of view. Soon I'll post something useful and informative...maybe.
